We have been producing Jupons for SCA fighters on
an irregular basis for several years, but we have now found a reliable
sewing shop here in the US that allows us to offer them in greater numbers, and at a
lower price. Made with a cotton twill outer shell for
durability, and a cotton inner lining which incorporates a poly fill
padding which moves sweat away from the body and won't fill up and stop
breathing like cotton batting. These
are extremely well suited to SCA fighting, not so padded as to be
restrictive, but padded enough to take some of the sting out of a shot. These can easily be worn over armour or under it, the straight sleeve
being better served for use as a foundation. Heavy cord for lacing
Jupon closed is included in black or white.
The pattern we are using was drafted using Janet
Arnold's investigation into the cut and design of the coat armour worn by
the Black Prince, which has been preserved hanging in Canterbury Cathedral
since the late 14th Century. It incorporates a sine wave sleeve that
offers great mobility and a good fit. The bag sleeve was
designed after sleeve types seen in the 1405 Gaston Phoebus Hunt Book
illustrations and serves especially well with simple SCA style arm rigs.
Available in three sizes: Small, Medium (44- 50"
chest), and Large (50-54" chest)
Featuring two sleeve styles: Bag Sleeve and Straight
Sleeve
